The XIX International Scientific Conference on the State and Prospects of Medical Development in High-Performance Sports "SportMed-2024" will be held in Moscow on December 5-6.
RUSADA will participate in this event every year. RUSADA's Director General Veronika Loginova emphasized the importance of multi-disciplinary cooperation for effective implementation of anti-doping policies in her speech at the conference in December 2023. In July 2024, RUSADA will collaborate with the Ministry of Sports and Ministry of Health in Tambov to host the Russian Forum on "Sport. Anti-Doping. Health: Interdepartmental Cooperation". This event will bring together over 400 participants from 50 different cities in Russia.
This year at SportMed, the head of RUSADA noted a positive increase in the number of permits for the use of prohibited substances in sports for therapeutic purposes. "Thanks to our active educational programs for sports medicine professionals, we have seen a significant increase in both the quantity and quality of requests for Therapeutic Use Exemptions (TUE) this year," she said.
RUSADA held 22 online seminars for sports medicine experts in 2023.
While there were some positive developments, there were also some concerning ones. "We are currently investigating three cases involving doctors who have violated anti-doping regulations. The details of the cases are still under investigation, so I cannot disclose them, but I can say that two of the substances involved were meldonium and the third was acetazolamide, which is a masking agent," Veronika Loginova said.
